New Protein-Analysis Tool Shows Broad
Role for miRNAs in Protein Synthesis

The tool is a variant of SILAC designed to measure changes in protein synthesis rather than in protein concentrations. When used in combination with microarray analysis of mRNAs, the approach enabled the researchers to pinpoint the effects of microRNAs on translation.
